Her Excellency, The Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Ghana is launching a Coalition of People Against Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Harmful Practices (CoPASH). The Coalition will spearhead a national response on the issues of SGBV/HPs including case management and increasing prevention efforts in Ghana. The mandate of CoPASH is to bring together a group of agencies, organizations and individuals who are passionate about the rights of women and girls, to advocate for better resources for SGBV survivors throughout the nation. Through the Coalition, the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana intends to bring high level advocacy and visibility to interventions aimed at preventing and managing gender issues including:

  • Child Marriage (CM)
  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
  • Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV)
  • Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Rape, Defilement, Wife Battery, etc.

Joining CoPASH

Individuals and groups who have experience leading advocacy efforts on issues concerning women and girls are encouraged to apply. Interested parties are expected to be thought leaders in their field, should be able to think strategically and creatively about solutions to SGBV/HPs and should be able to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to carry out the mission of CoPASH.

Membership Criteria

  1. The Coalition of People against SGBV/HPs is a voluntary coalition of individuals and organizations, therefore all members must be willing and available to donate their time and resources for a minimum of a one-year period  
  2. Coalition members should be committed to advocacy efforts around issues of SGBV/HPs in Ghana and should be interested in advocating for the rights of women and girls
  3. Members should be willing to attend planning meetings and commit to assist in the execution of coalition events
  4. Members should have a strong network of contacts and associates who would be willing to support CoPASH’s advocacy campaign efforts
