Location: Accra International Conference Center, Greater Accra Region.

Description: In 2013, the UN General Assembly designated May 23 as International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. The annual commemoration is used to raise awareness and intensify actions towards ending Obstetric Fistula. Obstetric Fistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during childbirth. It is a hole between the birth canal and the bladder or rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without treatment. It leaves women leaking urine, faeces or both, and over time, it leads to chronic medical problems. Sufferers also often endure depression, social isolation and deepening poverty.

As part of the activities lined up for the 2015 commemoration under the theme, ‘End fistula, restore women's dignity’, the Media and Communication Advocacy Network and Media Foundation for West Africa in collaboration with UNFPA launches a booklet and documentary entitled “Living with Obstetric Fistula: The untold stories of Fistula survivors”.

The Guest of Honour is H.E Dr Mrs. Lordina Mahama, First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, with Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, Chairman of the National Media Commission steering the affairs of the event.
