Event: World Population Day

Location: College of Physicians and Surgeons, Greater Accra Region
Description: The day is scheduled to coincide with the FP2020. FP 2020 Summit, held on July 2012, Governments, development partners and other stakeholders agreed to support the rights of women and girls to decide, freely and for themselves, whether, when and how many children they want to have. The UK Government, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with UNFPA among others launched the ground-breaking effort to make available affordable, lifesaving contraceptive information, services and supplies to an additional 120 million women and girls in the world’s poorest countries by 2020. This year’s event taking place in London, with satellite events being hosted in countries including Ghana to mark 5 years of progress and achievements since its launch in 2012.
The WPD celebrations is under the theme: “Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations”. And the national theme in Ghana is “Family Planning, Healthy People for Sustainable National Development”.
The Chair for this great occasion is Hon. Prof. George Gyan Baffour, Minster for Planning and Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa: Commissioner, National Development Planning Commission is the keynote speaker.
