As part of the COVID-19 response by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to protect front-line health workers, UNFPA Ghana has once again supported the Ghana Health Service (GHS) with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Receiving the PPE, the Director-General of GHS, Dr Patrick Aboagye, commended UNFPA for continuously supporting frontline health workers in Ghana. He said that, “We are very grateful to UNFPA. This is not the first offer you have made; you have supported us a lot…” Dr Aboagye also revealed that most health workers who were infected with COVID-19 have recovered and have resumed their duties.

UNFPA Ghana’s Representative, Mr. Niyi Ojuolape reaffirmed UNFPA’s constant support to the Government of Ghana and frontline health workers whose lives are risk daily in their line of duty. Mr. Ojuolape stated that, “We believe that if we take care of our health workers, we will be in a better position to respond to the pandemic”.

The PPE which were handed over included surgical gloves, isolation gowns, FFP2/N95 face masks, panoramic googles, face shields, hand sanitizers, shoe covers and disposable aprons.

Since Ghana recorded cases of COVID-19 in March, UNFPA Ghana has consistently provided PPE to the GHS isolation centre at Pentecost Convention Centre, the Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital, and the Tamale Central Hospital among others, in order to protect and support frontline health workers.
