UNFPA is 50 years and there are unique landmarks celebrations happening globally to acknowledge the birth of the United Nations agency devoted to improving the sexual and reproductive health of the population as well as advancing gender equality.

UNFPA since 1969, the agency's role has been pivotal in enabling women and girls enjoy their full sexual and reproductive health rights. UNFPA Ghana is poised to make this year an exceptional year in recognizing the work of UNFPA in Ghana in terms of social development.

For this reason, there are concurrent activities outlined including; the celebration of renowned Ghanaian advocate for women and girls sexual and reproductive health rights, Professor Fred Sai, who turns 95 this year as the ICPD also is 25 years. The China -Africa Conference on Population and Development themed “25 years of ICPD: Population Data Management and Universal Access to Reproductive and health as key Drivers of Sustainable Development is one of the remarkable planned activities for this year’s anniversary.

UNFPA @50 is a historic milestone which provides an opportunity to all stakeholders and the population as a whole to reflect on the world’s progress towards in ensuring right and choices for all and to recommit to the vision of the 1994, International Conference on Population and Development. After 50 years, the urgency to Pursuit the unfinished business in making reproductive health a necessity is still outstanding to us.

In making the SDG’s agenda a reality, we are committed to universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights by 2030 focusing on our three transformative results: to end unmet need for family planning, to end preventable maternal death and zero gender-based violence and all harmful practices against women and girls.
