As part of the observation of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, UNFPA representative to Ghana Niyi Ojuolpe is calling on everyone to protect women and girls because that is the key to a prosperous future. Mr Ojuolape said this as part of his message to the world on the fourth day of the 16 days of activism campaign.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign that takes place each year. It commences on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. The global advocacy theme for 2018 is: Orange the World, with the hashtag “Hear Me Too” (#HearMeToo)

Very passionate about gender issues in general and specifically about  the empower of the girl child, Niyi started series of initiatives that  support gender equality and addresses issues surrounding sexual and gender based violence. Notable amongst them is his role in developing the Coalition of People Against SGBV and Harmful Practices (CoPASH), of which H.E Samira Bawumia wife of the Vice President of the Republic is the convener. He also established UNFPA Ghana’s Youth Leaders Fellowship programme (YoLe), where young people are mentored to champion the empowerment of women and girls in society.

He encourages everyone to participate in the 16 Days of activism campaign and even beyond it.
