Pobiman is a community located in Ga West of the Greater Accra Region and is home to about 1500 people. The community is plagued by several socioeconomic challenges that have given rise to high incidences of teenage pregnancies and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
UNFPA Ghana continues to increase its presence in communities such as Pobiman as it inches closer to realizing zero unmet need for family planning and the elimination of SGBV. As such, UNFPA in collaboration with the Youth Action Movement (YAM) and the Young Urban women, implemented a peer-to-peer reproductive health outreach in the identified community.
The outreach allowed staff and Youth Leaders (YoLe) Fellows from UNFPA to interact and share information on family planning options and the services rendered by the Orange Support Centre (OSC).
The Orange Support Centre (OSC) is a facility that provides a safe environment for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) to receive timely, coordinated, and reliable support, including psychosocial, legal, and emergency shelter referrals, as well as SGBV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) information.
A total of about 1000 people were reached with information during the outreach, and most residents commended the organization for its good work.
UNFPA continues to work to ensure that every woman and girl would have universal access to sexual and reproductive health and be free from gender-based violence.
