Love and support to the vulnerable in the society is an amazing way of ensuring that indeed no one is left behind. UNFPA’s Honorary Ambassador, Claudia Lumor paid a visit to the Future First Academy in Accra, to spend time with the school children as part of her birthday celebrations.

The Future First Academy was founded by the Kayayei (head porters) Youth Association at Agbogbloshie in Accra and has over the years been supported by UNFPA, to ensure that the children of the vulnerable in the society also have a conducive environment to acquire education.

Ms. Lumor, sharing her intent for the visit stated that “It’s been so humbling spending time with children of the kayayei girls. It is something I hope we do more often as people in a society”.

She emphasized that, UNFPA supporting this school to give children of the vulnerable access to quality education is a great initiative. “Any one of them could be our kids. It's no fault of theirs that they are born into a deprived community”, she added and called on other individuals and stakeholders in the society to show interest in the vulnerable.

The Honorary Ambassador presented educational materials, food and beverages to the kids. She was assisted by some of the children to cut two tier yummy birthday cake as well as the UNFPA@50 cake.

The children in turn chanted a birthday song as they enjoyed the cake and thanked Ms. Lumor for her kind gesture. The school was recently renovated by UNFPA and continues to receive support from the agency.

UNFPA commits to empowering the vulnerable and giving them a voice in the society through strategic programming and community-based interventions such as supporting the Future First Academy and many more.

The kayayei mothers are now able to enroll their children in the school while they focus on making a living.
