CALL FOR PHOTOS

'16 Shades of Abuse' Campaign: Photography for 16 Days of Activism 2023

To commemorate the globally recognized 2023 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with the overarching theme of "Investing to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls" UNFPA Ghana introduces the "16 Shades of Abuse" campaign. This innovative initiative calls upon creative minds, particularly photographers, to participate in a photography competition aimed at addressing the pervasive issue of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices within the society.

This open call extends to all photographers in Ghana, inviting them to submit their compelling visual narratives. It presents a unique opportunity for photographers to wield the power of their craft as a means for social transformation and contribute to the collective endeavour of combating sexual and gender-based violence. The focal point of these visual narratives is the multifaceted nature of abuse, encompassing physical, psychological, sexual, verbal, and economic forms.

The "16 Shades of Abuse" campaign has a resolute goal: to leverage the emotive potential of imagery to spark vital conversations, challenge ingrained norms, evoke empathy, and empower change. Ultimately, it seeks to amplify the voices of those adversely affected by abuse and to establish a community of awareness and advocacy that drives substantial societal transformation.

In a dedicated effort to ensure diversity and inclusivity, female photographers are strongly encouraged to actively participate in this competition. The inclusion of diverse perspectives is pivotal in addressing the complex issue of sexual and gender-based violence in our Ghanaian context.

We invite you to join the '16 Shades of Abuse' campaign and become a catalyst for change through the lens of your camera.
