Oguaa Traditional Area Declares End to Child Marriage

Child Marriage is a human rights violation that robs girls of the agency to exercise reproductive rights.

It further affects the realization of their potential and therefore, leads to underdevelopment in areas where it remains prevalent. Together with the Ministry of Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs, UNFPA, the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, His Majesty Osabarima Kwesi Atta II & the Obaapa Development Foundation, as well as queen mothers and elders, declared an end to child marriage in the community.

They will take concrete steps to ensure the child marriage is eliminated to afford girls the chance to make more meaningful life choices which will be of benefit to them, their families, community and nation at large.

The cultural event to mark the declaration took place at the Eminstimadze Palace in Cape Coast, Central Region.
